Brandon Cathey

Brandon Cathey’s commitment to the injured and 
underinsured compelled him to the practice insurance law. 
His advocacy on behalf of those who cannot otherwise find
representation inspires the rest of our team.

Since joining Swope Rodante P.A. in 2004, Mr. Cathey has 
consulted with hundreds of attorneys on issues of insurance 
coverage and bad faith.

Mr. Cathy earned his Juris Doctorate at Florida State 
University College of Law and is currently a member of both 
the Florida Bar and the Georgia Bar. He is licensed to 
practice in all Florida and Georgia courts. He is also admitted 
to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District (2009). 
Prior to law school, Mr. Cathey earned his Bachelor of Arts 
degree with majors in both History and English at University 
of South Florida where he was a member of both the English 
and History honor societies. Not only did these studies 
prepare Mr. Cathey for interpreting contractual complexities, 
but also they inspired him to further explore methods of 
addressing the current situation of the disadvantaged.

Mr. Cathey’s overachievements carried into law school. 
During this time, Mr. Cathey received many awards. As a 
member of the Florida State University College of Law Moot 
Court Team, Mr. Cathey was awarded Best Brief for his brief 
on Age Discrimination in Employment during the 2002 
Intramural Competition, and received “Final Four” honors in 
the Best Oralist Competition before the Florida Supreme 
Court. As a member of the Dispute Resolution Society, Mr. 
Cathey was a co-champion of the 2001-2002 Intramural 
American Bar Association Negotiation Competition. Mr. 
Cathey was also the recipient of the Florida Tax Bar 
Scholarship and the Florida State College of Law 
Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award.

Professional & Community Involvement

Brandon Cathey is a member of several local organizations interested in improving advocacy for civil victims such as the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association and the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers.

During law school, Mr. Cathey was selected to be a member of the Moot Court team. He also served as Chairman of SEEEDS for Justice, volunteered on the Florida Innocence Project, and participated in the American Civil Liberties Union.

While earning his J.D. from Florida State University College of Law, Brandon Cathey was on the Article Selection Committee of the Journal of Transnational Law and Policy.
