On Thursday, December 5th a public school bus collided with a dump truck at a rural Idaho intersection. The crash resulted in the death of an 11-year-old boy and injuries to four other student passengers.
The collision occurred right around 8:00am, claiming the life of Daniel Robert Cook. The boy died from blunt force trauma sustained in crash. The accident took place on a two-lane country road about 20 miles west of Boise, according to local Coroner Vicki DeGeus-Morris.
Aside from the fatality, four children were taken to the hospital. Two were released after being treated for non-life threatening injuries, but the two others were transported to a specialized facility for focused pediatric care. The bus driver also was also taken to a hospital for monitoring. Idaho State Police explained she was distraught after the accident, but not physically injured. The driver of the dump truck was not injured in the crash.
State Police did not know the initial cause of the collision. Investigators are still trying to sort out exactly what happened. Since the crash involved a fatality and a child, charges could be forthcoming, said Cpl. Timothy Davidson.
“It’s not just an infraction. It’s going to be a criminal charge, more than likely,” Davidson noted. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Theresa Baker said all the kids were sixth-graders or younger. The names and conditions of the four children injured in the crash were not immediately released by police.
