The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Board is pleased to share that Plant City High School senior, Drew Knotts, has been selected as the December Student Athlete of the Month. The mission of The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award is to celebrate outstanding high school student athletes and coaches throughout Hillsborough County. Drew will be presented the award next week as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s Athletic Department.
Drew is a 4 year member of the varsity girls soccer team, 3 year member of the varsity cheer team and 3 year member of the varsity flag football team at Plant City High School She was nominated by her soccer coach, Brooke Bennet, for her leadership and will to be successful in and out of the field. Drew received the soccer Rookie of the Year award her freshman year and honorable mention in All Western Conference Team. She was 2nd Team All Western Conference in soccer and 2nd Team All County Flag Football her sophomore year. Her junior year she achieved to be in 1st Team All Western Conference for soccer. Drew has also been honored as the 2015 & 2016 Plant City Observer Athlete of the Week and the May 2016 Plant City Focus Athlete of the Month.
A true example of a Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Student Athlete of the Month, Drew, volunteers his time at the tutoring center, as a member of the Ronald McDonald House of Charity, Civinettes Serve Club to serve and feed the homeless, participates and helps with the Special Olympics, Best Buddies program, President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club and many more. Even with her busy schedule, she has excelled in academics and maintained a 4.48GPA. Drew has earned a Division 1 soccer scholarship to attend Georgia Southern University where she plans to major in Journalism to one day becoming an ESPN sideline reporter.
REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATED STUDENTS
- The student athlete’s name and year (juniors and seniors only);
- Current overall GPA (GPA of 3.0 or above);
- Sport and athletic achievements; Community involvement;
- Any hardships overcome by the student athlete;
- and Plans for continuing education.
