The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Board is pleased to share that Bloomingdale High School Senior, Jacob Cannon, has been selected as the January Student Athlete of the Month. The mission of The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award is to celebrate outstanding high school student athletes and coaches throughout Hillsborough County. Jacob will be presented the award as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s Athletic Department.
As a member of Bloomingdale High School’s basketball team, Jacob was nominated by his basketball coach Joesph Willis. Coach Willis feels that what makes Jacob special is his drive and commitment to the team, to his academics, to his community and to his family. Throughout his high school basketball career, Jacob has achieved things such as being the JV Team Captain and became a Varsity player for both his Junior and Senior years. Jacob and his team also became District Champions on February, 5th against Tampa Tech with a final score of 61-58.
Additionally, Jacob is involved with his community by participating and volunteering in Student Government, Gap Camp, Treasurer of Senior Steering SGA and Relay For Life. Jacob has maintained an outstanding unweighted GPA of 3.85 and plans to go into a four year program focusing on Environmental Engineering.
REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATED STUDENTS
- The student athlete’s name and year (juniors and seniors only);
- Current overall GPA (GPA of 3.0 or above);
- Sport and athletic achievements; Community involvement;
- Any hardships overcome by the student athlete;
- and Plans for continuing education.
