The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Board is pleased to share that King High School senior, James Ro, has been selected as the October Student Athlete of the Month! The mission of The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award is to celebrate outstanding high school student athletes and coaches throughout Hillsborough County. James was presented the award as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s Athletic Department at King High School on October 28 at 11AM.
James is part of the varsity golf team at King High School. He was nominated by his coach, Barrett Zebos, for his leadership on the team and support of his teammates. He is currently captain of the golf team, MVP, current Florida Junior Champion AUSKF, winner of the Scholar Athlete Awards of King Golf, and ranked as 3rd in all United States Kendo Federation.
A true example of a Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Student Athlete of the Month, James, volunteers his time as a Youth Praise Leader, participates at the Florida Hospital Summer Program, and is an Eagle Scout. Even with his busy schedule as an IB student and athlete, he has excelled in academics and maintained a 7.04 GPA. After graduation, James plans to go to medical school for Neurosurgery and wants to work in 3rd world countries.
REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATED STUDENTS
- The student athlete’s name and year (juniors and seniors only);
- Current overall GPA (GPA of 3.0 or above);
- Sport and athletic achievements; Community involvement;
- Any hardships overcome by the student athlete;
- and Plans for continuing education.
