The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Board is pleased to share that Blake High School senior, Joseph Morris, has been selected as the February Student Athlete of the Month. The mission of The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award is to celebrate outstanding high school student athletes and coaches throughout Hillsborough County. Joseph was presented with the award as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s Athletic Department.
Joseph has been a Varsity Basketball player at Blake High School for three years. He was nominated by his coach, Derrick Sharp, for his perseverance and his ability to push forward in and out of the field. He has been a 2-year starter and is currently the leading scorer of the 2016-2017 school year.
A true example of a Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Student Athlete of the Month, Joseph is an active member of the community and volunteers for the Athlete Teen Achievers program through the YMCA and Blake High School. Although his schedule is packed with basketball practice, homework, and a job, Joseph has excelled in academics and maintained a 3.6GPA. He has been accepted into Florida Memorial University, The University of North Florida, and FAMU. After graduating high school, Joseph plans to attend one of these universities where he hopes to walk on with the basketball team and major in business.

- Current overall GPA (GPA of 3.0 or above);
- Sport and athletic achievements; Community involvement;
- Any hardships overcome by the student athlete;
- and Plans for continuing education.
