On Friday, November 8th, a man riding a motorcycle at excessive speeds slammed into a school bus full of students on Waters Ave.
Students on their way home from school felt a big “bump”. That bump turned out to be a motorcycle crashing into the rear-end of the bus. The motorcycle disintegrated into pieces after colliding with the bus.
The rider, 22-year-old Jose Rodriguez of Tampa was going west; the school bus was headed east. As the bus began making a left turn, the bike slammed into it. Investigators say the motorcycle was travelling in excess of 100 miles per hour in the suburban area.
Debris from the accident flew into a couple cars nearby. The remaining mass of the motorcycle frame and its rider were catapulted and struck a third vehicle. The rider died after he was taken to the hospital and authorities also confirmed he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Waters avenue was closed for a while as crews worked to sort through the gruesome scene. At this point, it appears the bus driver is not at fault and will not be cited. Thankfully, none of the students aboard the bus were hurt.
