The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Board is pleased to share that Lennard High School senior, Roderick Roberts, has been selected as the 2017 September Student Athlete of the Month.
Roderick was presented with the award as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s athletic department. Roderick plays for the varsity football team at Lennard High School. He was nominated by his coach, Matthew Kitchie, for the positive attitude he exudes every day in the field and in the classroom.
A true example of a Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Student Athlete of the Month, Roderick is an active member of the community by volunteering for his church whenever they have events and by mentoring the younger kids. Although he has a busy schedule, Roderick has excelled in academics and maintained a 4.03 GPA. After graduation, he plans to attend USF and play on the football team.
The mission of The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award is to celebrate outstanding high school student athletes and coaches throughout Hillsborough County.
REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATED STUDENTS
- Senior in a public high school of Hillsborough County
- Participate in at least 1 physical sport and have athletic achievements
- Volunteers for community service and/or community involvement
- Overcome a physical, personal, or mental hardship(s)
- Current overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Have plans for continuing education
