The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Board is pleased to share that Middleton High School Senior, Shannon Wilson, has been selected as the May Student Athlete of the Month. The mission of The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award is to celebrate outstanding high school student athletes and coaches throughout Hillsborough County. Shannon was presented the award as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s Athletic Department on May 23, 2016 .
Shannon has been on the soccer team and varsity volleyball team since her sophomore year. She was nominated by her coach, Robert Dodson, for her great personality and her “never quit” attitude to do her best and be the best. Shannon worked hard over summers to make it onto the varsity volleyball team and the starting line up for both her junior and senior year. She is the school’s record holder for the most blocks in four years in the volleyball team at Middleton High School and was named the defensive MVP of the soccer team.
A true example of a Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Student Athlete of the Month, Shannon volunteers at the Trinity Cafe, Metropolitan Ministries, Community Clean Up, Sleepout for the Homeless, Relay for Life, and is in the National Honors Society. Although she has a busy schedule, Shannon has excelled in academics and maintained a 3.5 GPA. After graduation Shannon plans to attend USF to major in Behavioral Health and minor in psychology.
