On Friday November 22rd, a motorcyclist was killed in a traffic accident after sunset. The man riding the motorcycle apparently turned left right in front of an oncoming pickup truck on 54th Avenue North in St. Petersburg, according to accident details provided by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The rider was Ward Fouts Balcerzak, age 52, of St. Petersburg, Florida. He was on his motorcycle headed eastbound on 54th Avenue N close to 9:46 p.m., Florida Highway Patrol officials said. Balcerzak then attempted to make a left turn onto Haines Road. A pickup truck driven by Lanard M. Chance, age 43, of St. Petersburg was traveling westbound in the oncoming lanes on 54th Avenue. The pickup struck the motorcycle on its right side after Balcerzak inexplicably turned in front of it, FHP said.
The motorcycle came to a rest on its side just east of the Haines Road intersection. Balcerzak was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where he later died, FHP said. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
No word was provided on the details surrounding the accident. No charges have been filed and the case is under investigation.
