Swope, Rodante P.A. to participate in the Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop!

Buildings Alive

Swope, Rodante P.A. is honored to share that our building will be part of the Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop on March 9th, 2017 starting at 5:30PM until 10pm at 1234 East 5th Avenue, Tampa, FL 33605. Admission prices are $45 until March 3rd and $55 afterward or at the door. Ybor City Museum Society members receive a $10 discount. You can purchase tickets by registering here or call (813) 247-1434.

The 6th annual event, presented by the Ybor City Museum Society is themed “Traces of Cuba,” and features five historically significant buildings filled with Cuban-inspired stories. Each year, the Ybor City Museum Society selects historic buildings and sites in Ybor City, Tampa’s National Historic Landmark District, for behind-the-scenes tours during Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop. This year’s hop showcases the Centro Asturiano, Don Vicente (Gonzalez Clinic), Florida Cane (El Encanto), Oliva Building (under renovation), and Swope Rodante (Florida Brewery building). Participating locations will provide tours with refreshments.

Buildings Alive! attendees can start the hop anytime between 5 and 7 p.m., although they are encouraged to start hopping early to see as many sites as possible. Check-in and the Send-Off Party are at the Ybor City Museum State Park. This year, artist Sheryl Oring will be onsite to capture stories that will later be integrated into a sculpture at the Tampa International Airport. Beginning shortly after 5 p.m. attendees can also board one of three Jolley Trolleys with onboard guides that will transport them between hop stops throughout the evening.

“Redevelopment projects that incorporate some of Ybor City’s most treasured historic buildings have sparked a renewed interest in rehabilitating, preserving and repurposing pieces of our community,” said Chantal Hevia, Ybor City Museum Society President and CEO. “The hop is a rare chance to see beautifully preserved or rehabilitated historic buildings, some of which are not open to the public every day.” This year, we have added a hard hat tour of the Oliva Building so people can see the process of renovating a building,” says Elizabeth C. McCoy, Ybor City Museum Society Curator.

Buildings Alive! is supported by cultural development grants from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, the Department of State, Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and Florida Humanities Council. Sponsors include USAmeriBank, Ybor City Museum State Park, Creative Loafing, and Thomason Creative.
