Swope, Rodante, Newsome & Steinberg is proud to sponsor spinal cord injury survivor Arielle Rausin as a participant in the 2015 Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic. Rausin is slated to compete in the 15k Wheelchair Division beginning at 6:40am at the intersection of Brorein Street & Franklin Street on Saturday, February 21st.
Rausin became paralyzed from the waist down at the age of ten after being involved in a car accident on Thanksgiving Day of 2003. Despite this life changing injury, Rausin’s resilient and perseverant attitude has allowed her to become an accomplished adaptive track athlete. She picked the sport up seriously in high school and played a major role in changing FHAA regulations to help bring adaptive track to Florida high schools. Rausin currently attends the University of Illinois on a scholarship for wheelchair athletes and regularly competes in races throughout the U.S. Last year, she participated in the Boston Marathon.
This is Rausin’s second year competing in the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic. In 2014, she placed second overall in the wheelchair division, completing the race in 46:27. Swope, Rodante, Newsome & Steinberg is honored to help her compete in this year’s race. Members of the firm look forward to cheering her on the day of the race.
