Motorcycle Crash Fatality in Kentucky

On Tuesday, October 8th, one Kentucky man was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in McCracken County, a mainly rural area about 125 miles west of Bowling Green.

According to accident report filed by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 6500 block of New Hope Church Road around 9:30am after the crash was reported by eyewitnesses.

Sherriff’s deputies soon discovered that 18-year-old Kaleb W. Thompson, of Paducah, was riding headed westbound on his motorcycle on New Hope Road when he failed to safely negotiate a curve in the country road.

The motorcycle entered a skid and lay down on its side, sliding on the pavement and then colliding with a utility pole a just a few feet away from the road. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Kentucky, like Florida, does not require motorcycle riders to wear helmets by law. Thompson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The McCracken County Coroner’s Office determined the preliminary cause of death was determined by to be blunt force trauma to the head and body. Authorities did not comment on the estimated speed at which the motorcycle was travelling. Any contributing factors aside from operator error have not been determined and are still pending based on the outcome of a crash investigation.
