In a recent blog posting, we discussed a crash that took place on Wednesday, October 9th. The accident involved a collision between a Greyhound bus and a tractor trailer, leaving 44 people injured and one woman dead. The crash occurred around 1:41am on Interstate 80 in Union County, PA, about 50 miles north of Harrisburg.
According to early information provided by State Police, the Greyhound Bus rear ended a flatbed tractor trailer, both of which were moving at highway speeds. A YouTube video of the post-accident scene shows a contorted Greyhound Bus intertwined with the rear end of a flatbed trailer.
At the time, authorities provided no information regarding the cause of the crash and it is still unknown whether driver fatigue, health conditions, or excessive speed on the part of the bus driver contributed to the crash.
Now, the first of several anticipated civil lawsuits has been filed stemming from the accident. A Pennsylvania personal injury law firm filed a complaint against Greyhound Bus lines in a Philadelphia court last week. One passenger, Mr. Koomson, was allegedly injured while riding on the Greyhound bus seated near the rear of the vehicle.
Koomson’s lawyer, Jon Ostrof, explained:
“This is the first lawsuit that has been filed as a result of this Greyhound bus crash that led to one passenger’s tragic death and injury to so many others. The police investigation is ongoing and we will commence our own independent investigation. We are very anxious to determine why a Greyhound bus came to collide with the rear of a large truck. This is the fourth time in 2013 that a Greyhound Bus has been involved in a highway crash. These Greyhound bus crashes occurred either because the driver passed out or struck the rear of a large truck.”
Confirmed details surrounding the accident and potential lawsuits are still pending the results of a conclusive investigation.
