Coming up on October 26th and 27th, 2013, Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital will once again be hosting its 34th Annual Neurorehabilitation Conference on Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke and Other Neurologic Disorders in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The event will be hosted at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and will provide a unique opportunity for neurologists and physical therapists, and related brain-injury medical professionals to gather and exchange ideas. A Few Important Traumatic Brain Injury Statistics
- Nearly 1,700,000 TBIs occur each year in the US, as standalone injuries or with other injuries
- On average, one person in the US sustains a TBI every 21 seconds
- Of those who experience a civilian (non-combat related) traumatic brain injury (TBI) each year:
- 50,000 die
- 235,000 are hospitalized
- million are treated and released
- 5,300,000 people in the US, about 2% of the population, live with disabilities resulting from TBI
- The direct medical costs and indirect costs (lost productivity) of TBI are at least $60 billion each year
