Congratulations to Bawina Takeli for winning the Swope Rodante Vanguard Award for October 2026!
Bawina “BJ” Takeli is a senior at Tampa Bay Technical High School. BJ received the award along with a $1,000 donation to his school’s athletic department.
BJ is a basketball co-captain, a dedicated student with a 3.0 GPA, and an active volunteer with the YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Boys & Girls Club.
What makes BJ’s story especially meaningful is his determination to build a bright future despite the challenges he has faced. With his sights set on becoming the first in his family to graduate from high school and continue on to college, BJ is a wonderful example of perseverance, responsibility, and character.
