The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Board is pleased to share that Strawberry Crest High School senior, Briana Trigg, has been selected as the April Student Athlete of the Month. The mission of The Swope Rodante Vanguard Award is to celebrate outstanding high school student athletes and coaches throughout Hillsborough County. Briana will be presented with the award as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s Athletic Department.
Briana is the team captain of the varsity basketball team at Strawberry Crest. She was nominated by her basketball coach, Latosha Lewis, for her unbreakable spirit and capability to push through to succeed. Briana was 1st Team All Western Conference and her team has been back to back undefeated district champions. She has also been named Plant City Observer’s Athlete of the Week (Dec. 2, 2016) and scored her 1,000th point.
A true example of a Swope Rodante Vanguard Award Student Athlete of the Month, Briana is an active member of the community by volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club, AVID, and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club. Even with a busy schedule, Briana has excelled in academics and maintained a 3.70GPA. After graduating high school, Briana will be attending Shelton State on a basketball scholarship.
REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATED STUDENTS
- The student athlete’s name and year (juniors and seniors only);
- Current overall GPA (GPA of 3.0 or above);
- Sport and athletic achievements; Community involvement;
- Any hardships overcome by the student athlete;
- and Plans for continuing education.
