The Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Board is happy to share that Middleton High School Senior, Katelyn Allan, has been selected as the September Student Athlete of the Month. The mission of The Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award is to celebrate outstanding high school student athletes and coaches throughout Hillsborough County. Katelyn was presented the award as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s Athletic Department during an after school presentation.
Katelyn has been on the school’s softball since her freshman year. She was nominated by her AFJROTC teacher, Robin Rutzke, for her perseverance and positive outlook on life. She has won over 15 MVP awards for Middleton, selected as MVP of the Year her sophomore year and team captain her junior year. Katelyn is also a member of the Next Level Softball League which plays and travels on a yearly basis. Additionally, she is part of the Middleton AFJROTC Color Guard team and was selected as corps commander this year out of approximately 140 cadets.
A true example of a Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award Student Athlete of the Month, Katelyn, has accumulated over 100 hours of community service volunteering at community events such as 5K Runs, MLK Parade, Veteran’s Day events, Tampa Bay Lighting Games, Middleton Electrothon Race Club and much more. Even with her busy schedule, she has excelled in academics and maintained a 3.35GPA. After graduation, Katelyn is committed to playing softball at Palm Beach State College with a two year scholarship and plans to major in mechanical engineering.
REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATED STUDENTS
- The student athlete’s name and year (juniors and seniors only);
- Current overall GPA (GPA of 3.0 or above);
- Sport and athletic achievements; Community involvement;
- Any hardships overcome by the student athlete;
- and Plans for continuing education.
