PRESS RELEASE: Rowdies Player, Michael Nanchoff, slated as Keynote Speaker for End of the Year Awards Banquet
TAMPA, FL – The Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Board is pleased to announce that Michael Nanchoff of the Tampa Bay Rowdies will be the keynote speaker for the seventh annual Swope, Rodante Vanguard End of the Year Awards Banquet. The banquet will be held on Thursday, May 31st from 6:00pm-8:00pm at The Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City, located at 2117 E 7th Ave, Tampa, FL 33605. A special moment of silence will be held during the banquet in observance of the victims of the Parkland and Ocala school shootings.
Local student-athletes, coaches, and business and community leaders are expected to attend the celebration. In his keynote address, Nanchoff will honor the achievements, community involvement and outstanding performances of this year’s nominated student-athletes and coaches.
Managing Attorney, Karina I. Perez, of Vanguard Attorneys will participate as the Master of Ceremonies during the celebratory evening in recognition of an exceptional year over dinner and entertainment. The event will highlight the female and male Coach of the Year, who will each receive $1,000, and the overall student-athlete winner of the MVP Award, who will receive a special gift.
James Ro, the 2016-17 MVP Student Athlete, will also give a special presentation during the banquet. Ro was a graduate of the 2017 class of King High School and now attends Vanderbilt University. Ro will offer insight and advice on what student-athletes need to know to make a smooth transition into college.
Throughout the 2017-18 school year, the Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award has recognized student-athletes each month with the Student Athlete of the Month Award. Winning students include:

About the Keynote Speaker – Michael Nanchoff
Michael Nanchoff originally signed with the Tampa Bay Rowdies on January 8, 2016.
Nanchoff, 27, joins the Tampa Bay Rowdies after spending the last two seasons with the Portland Timbers. He split his time between the MLS Cup Champion team and Timbers 2 in the USL, scoring two goals in six appearances for Timbers 2 and making four appearances for the first team.
After playing collegiately at Akron University, Nanchoff was drafted 8th overall by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. He is now the third member of the Tampa Bay Rowdies with ties to Akron, joining Assistant Coach Stuart Dobson and defender Zac Portillos, though he didn’t overlap with either.
Nanchoff played two seasons for Vancouver before joining the Timbers in 2013. He spent part of the 2013 season on loan to Sweden’s Jönköpings Södra IF, scoring twice for the Swedish side before re-joining Portland for the 2014 season.
Nanchoff also serves as an assistant coach for the U12 Tampa Bay United Rowdies Development Academy team in his downtime, working with Head Coach Russell Stirling to groom the next generation of Rowdies stars.
About the Master of Ceremonies – Karina I. Perez
An aggressive litigator, Karina I. Perez has diverse expertise in civil litigation including motor vehicle accidents, catastrophic workplace accidents, contracts, commercial disputes, premises liability, and motor vehicle accidents. She is not afraid to be a fierce advocate for clients who have been wronged or injured.
A Florida native, she ventured to New Orleans to receive her bachelor’s degree in business law with a minor in French language at Tulane University. She continued her legal education in New Orleans, graduating from Loyola University in 2010 cum laude.
Perez is a member of the Florida State Bar and is admitted to practice in both the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the Southern District. She is also a Certified Continuing Education Instructor in the State of Florida.
The Managing Attorney at the law firm, she is devoted to providing clients with superior service to ensure that each of their unique needs have been met and that they have achieved the highest compensation possible.
